John on KWMR (Updated)

Marin GOP Chair John Turnacliff was interviewed on-air by Amanda Eichstaedt of KWMR FM 90.5 at 9:15 am June 11, 2025. Amanda was a terrific host and was obviously well prepared to interview John. Despite butterflies ahead of time, John did a great job representing Marin County Republicans and the Marin GOP. He expressed his determination to connect with all Republicans. This includes those in remote areas such as Point Reyes in West Marin. Amanda will have him back in September and December to facilitate that outreach. Listen to John and Amanda below:

You can listen to Amanda’s “The Lowdown” on the web.

Before the interview, John and I spoke with Dave. He is the foodie host of “Fish Tales with Dave Cook” that goes on after Amanda. We were intrigued by the “gum wars” he described at local saloons. If I understood him correctly, that’s how they engage in serious political discussions – literally in each other’s faces.

Dave, if you’re reading, I’m game. Just say when and where!

Comment on Public Radio

Amanda mentioned that 26% of KWMR’s funding is from public radio. Losing that funding would harm public safety for that region. Broadcasting from that station plays a vital role in any area-wide emergency. If we’re going to support Trump’s plan to cut public funding for broadcasting, we must consider other funding options. These options are necessary for radio stations in remote areas to continue ensuring public safety.

Great summary Frank. There are no doubt other areas of Marin that we need to tend to, but today at Pt Reyes was a great first step. Thank you to Amanda at KWMR for inviting us to tell our story and get invited back for later in the year. The funding for smaller community radio stations for sure needs attention as it’s a safety issue.
